Warrior[wawr-yer]: noun: a person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage.
The more I’ve talked with people, I’ve increasingly realized how frustrating New Year’s resolutions have become. Most people don’t bother to make them anymore because they know their track record of going strong on that new diet or workout plan for about a month, before
life catches up and the commitment slowly tapers off.
I’ve been reflecting on that trend recently, and with this being my last semester in college (holding back the tears), I want something to stick. I want there to be a change in me that’s evident to others and it doesn’t just alter my budget or my waistline or how regularly I read my Bible for a few months; no, I want this to be a transformative year that I look back on in 10, 20 years and say, “In 2015, I changed. I truly improved myself.”
Thankfully, I solidified that ambiguous goal into an attainable objective. There’s this teeny little book called “One Word that will change your life”, and it truly has. Instead of being bogged down by New Year’s resolutions, I simply chose one word to define how I will live my life this year. If you haven’t put two and two together yet, my word for 2015 is “Warrior”. More than just the dictionary definition describing strength and courage, this word means to me that I’ll be bold and confident in my pursuits. My security will come from Christ, and I’ll remain perseverant in this final semester of college and the dark, scary, unknown void called “life” that comes after that May 9th ceremony.
If that isn’t cool enough about this whole concept of “One Word”, the cherry-on-top is how it truly affects every area of one’s life; spiritual, physical, mental, relational, emotional, and financial. Although I know it will be nearly impossible to leave behind my friends and the memories I’ve made at CCU, as a warrior I know that I can be fearless going into life ahead with Christ as my center and his hope as an anchor for my soul.
Of course there is fear and a healthy anxiety for traveling abroad next fall (coming post about that!), but I also foresee this being that “start of something new” kind of year.
And now I challenge you to do the same. What are you hoping to get out of this year? What obstacles are in the way? What one word could you focus on this year in order to improve yourself and your relationships with those around you? Comment below what you decide to focus on for 2015!
stay lovely,

Kelli Girl, thank you for sharing especially the last part about FOCUS….you see that’s my word for 2015. The One word concept really does work. Mine for 2014 was PRAY which I did and continue to do more of than before!

Great info and very inspirational! My word may be “retired” since I did just that. I need to wrap my brain around what it is like to be retired. 🙂
